A leukemia-stricken teen struggles to come of age while battling a life-threatening illness. Escaping into self-designed comic book fantasies, he reimagines himself as a powerful superhero. Director Ian Fitzgibbon’s compelling teen drama avoids the material’s obvious sentimental pitfalls thanks to strong performances by both Thomas Brodie-Sangster in the lead role and Andy Serkis as the boy’s therapist.
