Serving the Power to Do Good

The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center is committed to engaging our local community in the arts. In past years, the center's involvement with community has included offering free events, workshops and classes for those we serve.

For example, the center engages routinely with students from the South Bend Community School Corporation, Robinson Community and Learning Center and the Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County. The center also provides arts experiences for the Center for the Homeless by screening free classic films and inviting guests to visiting artist performances.

“I believe the performing arts are so important for young people, especially those attending public schools, those who are minorities or those who have limited resources, because it allows them to have a broader range of experiences,” says Velshonna Luckey, associate director of children’s programs at Robinson Community Learning Center.

For the 2008–2009 academic year, the center offered 57 diverse, free arts activities for the local community.
