The Wrong Man Learning Beyond the Classics
Learning Beyond the Classics
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
With Henry Fonda, Vera Miles, Anthony Quayle
Not Rated, 105 minutes, 35mm

A rare Hitchcock film based on a true story, the inspiration for The Wrong Man came from the life story of Christopher Emmanuel Balestrero, played here by Henry Fonda. Manny, as he is known, is a musician in desperate need for cash to pay for his wife’s (Vera Miles, who returned to work on Psycho) medical procedure. While trying to get an advance on an insurance policy, Manny is fingered by someone at the office as the man who robbed them at gunpoint. The cops arrest Manny, whose freedom is now in the hands of his defense attorney (Anthony Quayle). Martin Scorsese has cited The Wrong Man as hugely influential on his work, in particular Taxi Driver.

Free for ND, SMC, HC, and IUSB students.
