Learning Beyond the Classics
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
With Farley Granger, Robert Walker, Ruth Roman
Rated PG, 101 minutes, DCP

Given its roots of being based on Patricia Highsmith's debut novel and adapted in part by Raymond Chandler, this switcheroo thriller set up nicely for Alfred Hitchcock’s direction. Tennis star Guy Haines (Farley Granger) is enraged by his wife's refusal to finalize their divorce so he can ascend upwardly and marry a senator's daughter (Ruth Roman). While on a train, Guy strikes up a conversation with a stranger, Bruno Anthony (Robert Walker), and unwittingly sets in motion the one of the most famous quid pro quibus in cinema history.
