“Song of Granite” (2017) tells the stirring life story of one of the 20th century’s greatest proponents of traditional Irish music —Seosamh Ó hÉanaí, known locally as Joe Éinniú or Joe Heaney. The film was shown at the Browning Cinema on Thursday, March 22. The event was sponsored by the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies.
The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center’s Browning Cinema hosted my favorite part of awards season, the Oscar-nominated shorts. The Academy will have a painfully difficult decision this year for the Best Animated Short category. Raucous laughter. Wistful sighs. Enchanted “aw’s". A tear or two. These were but a fraction of the reactions I heard and witnessed at the 29th Annual Notre Dame Student Film Festival. As the filmmakers, the actors, their friends and family, and members of the community alike gathered to watch this year’s group of films, it was safe to say, looking around, that everyone was amazed by the incredible quality of this year’s lineup. read more
