Todd Rundgren “Plays Like a Champion” at Notre Dame

Legendary music veteran Todd Rundgren brings his more than 50 years of experience at the cutting edge of the music industry and his Spirit of Harmony Foundation, which he founded and serves as President, once more to the Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on Friday, September 7 at 8 p.m.

Football Friday Concert with Notre Dame Students

A highlight of Notre Dame’s second home football game weekend, Rundgren performs with his band, including original Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame inductee Greg Hawkes (The Cars), bassist Kasim Sulton (Utopia, Meatloaf, Joan Jett) drummer Prairie Prince (The Tubes, Jefferson Starship), and guitarist Jesse Gress (Tony Levin Band). Notre Dame student musicians and singers join in for the one-of-a-kind concert.

Rundgren is a musician, songwriter, and record producer, whose musical career began at the age of 17 in the Philadelphia area. He has produced an abundant and diverse range of recordings as a solo artist, as a member of the band Utopia, and various collaborations including Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band. He is a video pioneer, a prolific producer and engineer on the recorded work of other musicians (including The Band, Hall and Oates, Grand Funk Railroad, Meatloaf, New York Dolls, Psychedelic Furs), and has a large and dedicated fan base across the globe. In recent years, he has been Artist in Residence at Columbia College in Chicago, DePauw University, University of Colorado, and others.

Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony

This concert marks Todd’s second visit to the University of Notre Dame. Todd and his Spirit of Harmony Foundation visited the campus September 22–October 1, 2016, as an Artist in Residence, hosted by Notre Dame Film, Television, and Theatre. The “Play Like a Champion Today” concerts (2016 and 2018) allude to the many similarities between the benefits of athletics and the benefits of music education.

Founded in 2013, Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony advocates for the moral imperative of music education and music performance for youth, beginning at the earliest age possible, offered in schools or as after-school programs. SOHF forges meaningful partnerships among music programs, corporations, and other music education non-profits, engaging supporters and music fans to become involved in working with music education programs nationally and in their communities.
