Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
With Tippi Hedren, Sean Connery, Martin Gabel
Rated PG, 130 minutes, 35mm

Re-adapted as an opera by Nico Muhly playing this Saturday at the Browning as part of the Met Opera Live in HD series, Marnie has become quite vogue again. Mark Rutland (Sean Connery) is a customer of Mr. Strutt, whose business was robbed by his secretary, the mysterious Marnie Edgar (Tippi Hedren in a role given to Princess Grace Kelly before the Monegasque public decried her involvement in a film so scandalous).

When Marnie applies for a job with Mark with the felonious intentions, the infatuated Mark blackmails her into marrying him. He soon discovers that Marnie has severe psychological issues (including but not limited to: men, thunderstorms, and the color red). Undeterred, Mark resolves to help Marnie come to terms with her past trauma.

Free for ND, SMC, HC, and IUSB students.

Sponsored by the Meg and John P. Brogan Endowment for Classic Cinema.
