Directed by Jerome Robbins, Robert Wise
With Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Rita Moreno
Not Rated, 153 minutes, DCP

Prior to Rita Moreno’s visit to the Leighton Concert Hall on February 21, come see the film that won her an Oscar en route to her becoming the first Latina to enter the rarified E.G.O.T. club. Known from its Romeo and Juliet roots and to be known from its upcoming Steven Spielberg remake, this 1961 version adapts the Bernstein/Sondheim/Laurents musical in which a modern day star-crossed lovers are involved in New York street gangs. On the harsh streets of the Upper West Side, two gangs battle for control of the turf. The situation becomes complicated when Tony (Richard Beymer) falls in love with a rival's sister (Natalie Wood).
