Department of Music
The Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra presents its Spring Concert. The program will feature two of the greatest symphonies in the repertory, the "Jupiter" Symphony of W.A. Mozart and the Fourth Symphony of Johannes Brahms. Composed roughly a century apart (Mozart's in 1788, and Brahms's in 1884-85), both works were ultimately the last of their kind by each composer, effectively their "swan songs" for orchestra. As their eloquent final statements in the medium, both have been received as summations of the profound inspiration and exquisite craftmanship of their creators.
