American Ballet Theatre Studio Company brings the artistry and virtuosity of American Ballet Theatre to the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center this May 2–4 in performances that draw the 2018–2019 Presenting Series season to a close. These Studio Company performances feature a versatile, mixed program of beloved classical excerpts and daring new works.
The ABT Studio Company is a classical ensemble made up of 12 dancers of outstanding potential. As the highest level of the ABT training ladder, ABT Studio Company serves as a crucial bridge between ballet training and professional performance, preparing young dancers (ages 16-20) to enter American Ballet Theatre or other leading ballet companies worldwide.
Dancers work closely with members of ABT’s artistic staff and faculty to learn ABT repertoire and other masterworks of the classical and neoclassical canons. ABT Studio Company is also an incubator for choreographic talent, commissioning choreographers at various stages of their careers to create new works on the group each season.
Three-quarters of the current dancers in American Ballet Theatre began their careers in ABT Studio Company, including nine Principal Dancers: Isabella Boylston, Misty Copeland, Herman Cornejo, David Hallberg, Sarah Lane, Hee Seo, Christine Shevchenko, Cory Stearns, and Devon Teuscher.
These performances will also include the announcement of the artists selected for the upcoming 2019–2020 Presenting Series.
Performances made possible by the Robert M. and Ricki Conway Endowment for Excellence in the Performing Arts.
