In Presenting Series Spring Season Opener BODYTRAFFIC and DeBartolo Performing Arts Center Show Love for the Contemporary
Known internationally for achieving crowd-pleasing work of exceptional sleekness through technical mastery, BODYTRAFFIC is a chameleon-like contemporary dance company under Tina Finkelman Berkett and Lillian Rose Barbeito. Since 2007, BODYTRAFFIC has made its name for an aesthetic deeply reflective of its Los Angeles home. The company opens the center’s spring 2022 Presenting Series season with two performances on February 11–12 at 7:30 p.m. Regular tickets are $32, student tickets are $15.
BODYTRAFFIC’s repertory is already rich with commissions by an international roster of choreography superstars. One is SNAP, Micaela Taylor’s layered take on social pressure and urban diversity, a centerpiece of a mixed program that includes some of their most celebrated works. SNAP urges audiences to “snap out of” social pressures to conform and connect with their individuality and of others. The piece highlights Taylor’s cutting-edge style, which combines hard-hitting hip-hop grooves with classical and contemporary techniques. Taylor also collaborated with experimental producer SCHOCKE to create an original composition for SNAP.
In addition to stage performances worldwide, BODYTRAFFIC does extensive outreach, and their education programs touch lives at home in Los Angeles. The company’s artistic directors and dancers provide training opportunities for pre-professional and professional dancers and customized dance experiences for people of all walks of life, with an emphasis on sharing with underserved populations.
With this presentation of BODYTRAFFIC, the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center continues to showcase some of the most captivating dance companies performing today.
