With the Emmy’s having just happened, it may seem like everyone around you is caught in the award show buzz. Who wore what? Who was nominated? Who won the prestigious awards?

What if I was to tell you that an Emmy and Grammy award-winning artist was on his way to the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, to give a show-stopping performance just in time to satisfy your award-show-driven craze? Gee, that would be like Christmas coming early!

Arturo Sandoval, the award-winning Cuban American jazz trumpeting wonder, will literally be bringing Christmas to South Bend with his September 28 concert: Christmas with Arturo Sandoval and the Notre Dame Children’s Choir. In celebration of his new Christmas album’s release, Mr. Sandoval will be playing all evening long, accompanied by clips from the documentary about his last visit here last year. And, if that wasn’t enough reason to see this show, here’s a list of 5 reasons why it should be on your bucket list:

  1. The man has won 10 Grammy’s so far in his career. For reference, that’s more than Garth Brooks, Drake, Imagine Dragons, and Maroon 5 have won, combined.
  2. He also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. The award is given by the POTUS to a civilian: “for especially meritorious contribution to (1) the security or national interests of the United States, or (2) world peace, or (3) cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
  3. He’s been playing the trumpet for a long time … since he was a child playing with the street musicians of Cuba. So it’s safe to say that he more than knows his way around the instrument.
  4. Once he arrived in the U.S., he was taken under the wing of the renowned jazz musician, Dizzy Gillespie. Dizzy remained his mentor and friend until his death in 1993.
  5. He’s accomplished so much in his life that, in 2000, a movie based on his life was premiered, with Andy Garcia starring as Arturo.

Spread good cheer and supporting local kids and student musicians—get your tickets for Christmas with Arturo Sandoval now. It’s the gift that keeps on giving! With each ticket purchase you pre-order the CD for delivery via mail after the concert.
