Classics in the Browning
Directed by Ken Russell
With Roger Daltrey, Ann-Margaret, Oliver Reed
Rated PG, 111 minutes, DCP
Ken Russell and Roger Daltrey released not one but two psychedelic musicals during 1975: Tommy and Lisztomania. It makes one wonder what was in the water — or in their drinks. Regardless, a cycle of films from the 1970s to the early 1980s shares a lot in common with Tommy: They had shaky plots, wore some trippy costumes, and showcased music from already-popular acts/past shows. That's very much what is showcased here in the film adaptation of The Who's rock opera with music and lyrics by their own Pete Townshend with the plot matching that of the musical, which follows a young boy with trauma who sure plays a mean pinball.
Free for ND, SMC, HC, and IUSB Students.
