Professional performing arts continue making a bright return to the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, with 2021-22 season ticket sales beginning Monday, July 26, at noon for the center’s signature Presenting Series. Information on each artist in the recently announced lineup can be found here.
Of the Presenting Series’s return, Associate Director of Programming and Engagement Sean Martin said, “As we planned our reopening, we felt it was important to honor our commitments to the artists we had to cancel after closing during the pandemic. So, this season, you’ll recognize many of the faces set to perform previously, with a few new additions that we’re excited to share. One of the performances we added that I’m most looking forward to is by Emorja Roberson, a Notre Dame doctoral student in Sacred Music. He’s bringing together professional artists and students for an unmissable evening. To be able to work with such a talented student and artist is a great privilege for us.”
In Martin’s hands, the series has matured into strengths in Broadway headliner concerts, chamber music, jazz, Irish theater, and sacred vocal and instrumental music. Many of these strengths arise from collaborative relationships with faculty in the Department of Music, Sacred Music at Notre Dame, and Notre Dame Film, Television, and Theatre. Co-curated events often include artist engagement with Notre Dame students and the public.
“When we began the process of canceling public programming in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was unfathomable that it would take over a year-and-a-half for us to come back. Yet, here we are,” said Ted Barron, executive director. “Considering the terrible toll of this global crisis, we are newly committed to presenting premier artists in dance, music, and theatre, which we hope provides an avenue for healing and celebration.”
Martin added, “The creative nature of the performing arts gave us options to gather virtually during the pandemic, which may be a permanent option lasting long into the future. However, part of the magic of the performing arts is bringing people and ideas together to witness the art as it examines what it means to be human. We couldn’t be more excited to gather together for the 2021-22 Presenting Series.
