Singin' in the Rain, a musical about surviving seismic shifts in the film industry, has itself endured and remains one of the most loved films of all time. Set in the late 1920s when the silent era of film transitions to "talkies," the film follows Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) who are on top of the celebrity world during the silent era and in a sparkless relationship that allows them to maintain their popularity. When sound (and actors' voices) come on the scene, Lina's grating voice is dubbed by Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds). As Kathy and Don work together, a relationship blooms even if both the relationship and Kathy are hidden from public view.

Sponsored by the Meg and John P. Brogan Endowment for Classic Cinema.
