Perhaps overlooked for many years, FernGully: The Last Rainforest leapt back into people's minds when Avatar was released in 2009 as the plot from Avatar is strikingly similar to this G-rated film from the Captain Planet days. In this animated tale, a fairy named Crysta lives in FernGully, an Australian rainforest, and lives under the impression humans are extinct. When a logging company looks to slash and burn her home, she realizes humans are both alive and very dangerous. She accidentally shrinks a boy named Zak down to her size, and he joins in the fight to save FernGully from the logging company and an evil, pollution-loving entity named Hexxus.
